The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) celebrates the exciting research conducted by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Professional Doctorate (Research) candidates. It is an international academic competition developed by the University of Queensland to cultivate students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills.
With just three minutes to give a compelling presentation on their thesis topic and its significance, the 3MT competition encourages research candidates to consolidate their ideas and outline their research discoveries. It challenges them to tell the story of their research to a non-specialist audience: what they are doing, why it matters, and what they hope to achieve ... all in just three minutes!
The winner of the University final will compete at the national finals 2019 Asia-Pacific Competition against winners from other universities at the University of Queensland on 4 October 2019.
Why should l take part?
(What are the benefits of participating in 3MT?)
3MT is a great way to showcase your research project to a whole new audience and engage with fellow researchers in the university and the wider community. It supports you in developing your capacity to effectively explain your research in a language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience.
There are cash prizes for the winners of the UTS 3MT Finals and the opportunity to represent UTS at the 2019 Asia-Pacific Competition at the University of Queensland.
