Indigenous Nations and Collaborative Futures
INDIGENOUS NATION BUILDING
What does nation building look like in Australia?
What are the greatest risks to Indigenous communities?
What research areas should be explored further to advance nation building?
What does the globalization of nation building affect Australian Aboriginal people?
Led by Professor Daryle Rigney, a citizen of the Ngarrindjeri Nation, the team of internationally recognised researchers works collaboratively with Indigenous peoples and their communities, government, industry and the not-for-profit sector to provide education, research and consultancy in Indigenous nation (re)building, Indigenous governance and self-determination. In practice this means:
- Services for Indigenous nations: consultancy with government, industry and Indigenous leaders; governance audits; nation building facilitation; community governance workshops; executive education; nation-specific governance strengthening projects; inter-Nation summits.
- Research and knowledge generation: case studies (individual nations and comparative); legal analysis; policy analysis; specific governance topics; contribution to discourse about institutional ethics and Indigenous research methodologies; engagement with international scholars, researchers and Indigenous nations.
- Dissemination of knowledge: journal articles, books and edited book chapters; public lectures, keynotes, conferences and symposia, seminars and workshops; webpage for research-in-brief summaries; media releases, opinion editorials and expert commentaries on policy and innovation; social media.
- Executive Education: partnering with the Faculty of Business developing and delivering new qualifications; developing a ‘pipeline’ from community engagement/leadership to degrees at all levels through to PhD; executive education for Indigenous communities, Australian governments and NGOs working with Indigenous nations; intensive Indigenous governance/nation building short courses; ECR and HDR supervision and mentoring.
