UTS Institute for Public Policy and Governance Appoints New Professor of Indigenous Policy
Wiradjuri lawyer Robynne Quiggin has been appointed as Professor of Indigenous Policy at the University of Technology Sydney Institute for Public Policy and Governance. Professor Quiggin was most recently Deputy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission and prior to this the CEO of the Australian Indigenous Governance Institute.
Director of the UTS Institute for Public Policy and Governance Professor Roberta Ryan said: “We are delighted to welcome Professor Quiggin to our team. Robynne’s commitment to human rights and her expertise in policy and governance as they pertain to Indigenous Australians in particular will strengthen UTS’s and the Institute’s capacity in these areas.“
Professor Quiggin’s expertise spans legal and policy areas of relevance to Indigenous Australians including human rights, financial services, consumer issues, governance, the arts and heritage. She also serves on numerous committees including as Trustee of the Australia Museum, Chair of First Hand Solutions and Westpac’s Reconciliation Action Plan Committee.
Professor Quiggin said she was honoured by her appointment and looks forward to working with colleagues here at the IPPG and across the University. “UTS has a real commitment to increasing its engagement with Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders and I’m very excited to be here. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on a range of issues relating to government’s engagement with First Peoples’ priorities and the ways government and the private sector can collaborate with communities to develop effective laws, policy and sustainable economic initiatives.”
The UTS Institute for Public Policy and Governance, incorporating the Centre for Local Government, provides education, research and consultancy in public administration and policy, social research, stakeholder engagement, and leadership. The Institute works with government and non-government organisations to research evidence to find long-lasting, cost-effective and sensible policy solutions.
