The Centre for Human Centred Technology Design (HCTD) is distinctive both for its human-centeredness and interdisciplinary commitments that are based within, and informed by, its focus on technology design research, processes and practices. This enables a strong focus on design across a broad range of technology based domains and specialities including networks, software development, business applications, games and educational products, mobile devices to be used in both work and leisure activities, human computer interaction and interaction design, interactive artworks and immersive environments of various kinds.
HCTD welcomes a diverse range of research work and those who specialise in the field. The centre includes highly technical people, those with strategic organisation skills and interests and people who bring traditional methods from humanities and social science to the design development of interactive information and communication technologies.
Its members range from well-established, internationally recognised researchers to those just beginning their research careers.
The Centre is committed to practice-based research, building a rich synergy between teaching and research, and to the ongoing development and use of human centred design tools and methods.
