Project title:Coral signalling: protein-specific interactions with bacteria
Supervisors: Assoc Prof Peter Ralph and Assoc Prof Ben Herbert , UTS
I am using the molecular skills I obtained in my undergraduate degree (Biotechnology, UTS) to further understand the workings in symbiotic relationships in coral at a molecular level.
I am particularly interested in bacterial interactions that have more recently been recognized as a part of the symbiosis and may interact with both zooxanthellae symbiont and cnidarian host.
Proteomics is the study of protein expression and is the tool I use in my analysis of the molecular interactions in the symbiosis system. By applying different environmental conditions to corals we can observe protein expression changes allowing for identification of key proteins that may help explain bacteria’s involvement in the symbiotic relationships.
