Research Projects
Expert Nation, an ARC project from a team led by ACPH Director Dr Tamson Pietsch, tracked the inter-war careers of 6000 university men and women who served in the First World War and investigates their contribution to the formation of the post-war Australian nation. The data set created by this project is available.
Criminal Characters, a Chancellors Postdoctoral project from ACPH Research Fellow Dr Alana Piper, which uses online crowdsourcing to transcribe tens of thousands of historical prison records from the 1850s to 1940s in order to analyse large-scale patterns in the life histories and criminal careers of offenders.
1001 Leichhardts, a project from a team that includes ACPH member Associate Professor Andrew Hurley, brought together different perspectives on the "missing" explorer Ludwig Leichhardt in one digital environment. This collection of short essays from researchers, cultural producers and family members within and beyond the Academy and from across the globe, treats Leichhardt not simply as an historical character, but as a dynamic figure enmeshed in the forces of memory.
