ABSTRACT:
Millions of users place data about themselves on on-line social networks and, while probably they have an interest on some of this information to be publicly available, they certainly may consider some of this information shall remain confidential. Simultaneously, the data provides benefits as such data enables personalization which increases the quality of service; and thus, it is regularly analyzed with data mining techniques. Since privacy directly correlates to the control users have regarding the data about themselves, this talk provides a technique by which operators of on-line social networks can improve the service to their users by empowering the users to appraise the privacy risks that some information they provide results in others inferring confidential attributes
BIO:
Vladimir Estivill-Castro is currently team leader of MI-PAL, recently classified for RoboCup 2011-2015 in the Standard Platform League using the Humanoid Robot Nao. His main interest are algorithmic engineering, computational complexity, intelligent data analysis, privacy preserving data mining and knowledge discovery. He is interested in algorithmic game theory, as well as modelling behaviour for model-driven development and formal methods in software engineering. He also has an interest in the teaching of problem solving for software development. Prof. Estivill-Castro holds a Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in Canada and degrees from UNAM in Mexico. He serves in the editorial board of the Journal of Research and Practice in Information Technology, is editor in chief of the series Conferences in Research and Practice in Information Technology. He has supervised several PhD, master and honours projects, earning the best supervision award in 2010 by the Australian Teaching and Leaning Council. Vlad has lead projects in Australia, Canada, Latin-America, Spain and the USA and he has delivered invited presentation to industry as well as keynote lectures at international technical conferences. He has secured over AUD$1MM in competitive research funding. His H-index in Google Scholar is 26.
