Turnaround Management Association program
Develop skills for saving ailing companies
The emerging specialist field of turnaround management – saving companies in distress – is recognised with the continuation of the Turnaround Management Association Program, comprising three Executive Certificate courses presented by the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in collaboration with the Turnaround Management Association, Australia (TMAA).
The Turnaround Management Association Program focuses on the key skills areas for restoring value to struggling enterprises and to avoid terminal insolvency. Program participants will develop skills in leadership, legal and accounting aspects for turnaround situations. Each of the three Executive Certificate courses; “Strategic Turnaround Management”, “Law for Turnaround” and “Accounting for Turnaround”, have been developed collaboratively by UTS academics and key TMAA member practitioners. Successful completion will attract subject credits in the UTS MBA program.
UTS is a responsive and progressive university with a strong reputation and important role of providing courses to meet the demands of a changing business environment. What is a Certified Turnaround Professional?
The Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP) designation was introduced in the US in 1993 to create an objective measure of the experience, knowledge, and integrity that is necessary to conduct corporate renewal work. In 2010, TMA Australia launched the first phase of its two-part CTP accreditation for the Australian market - the Certified Turnaround Analyst (CTA). The second phase for Certified Turnaround Professionals (CTP) will shortly be available to those who wish to apply.
The Certified Turnaround Analyst (CTA) program has been developed with the support of University of Technology Sydney (UTS) for the Australian market to offer corporate professionals solid foundations to operate successfully in the turnaround industry.
How the program works
The CTA program is the first of its kind in Australia and develops skills in leadership, legal and accounting aspects for turnaround situations. The CTA designation requires the completion of 3 courses:
Each course is approx. 40 hours in duration and is equivalent to a Postgraduate level University subject.
Qualified CTA’s wishing to become a CTP will be asked to demonstrate a required amount of turnaround experience, provide references, comply with the prescribed Code of Ethics and meet the continuing professional education requirements in order to maintain their CTP credentials.
Who should attend
All Turnaround professionals including – bankers, restructuring lawyers, insolvency practitioners, management consultants, interim managers, private equity players, management accountants and entrepreneurs.
About gaining a credit in the MBA
As Australia's premier industry aligned university, UTS has strong links with both local and national industries to ensure that discipline specific, tailored industry courses - such as these, offer practitioners a strong combination of theory and best practical experience.
For this initiative, content design and topic identification for each of the three courses was a collaborative process with joint UTS and TMA working parties meeting regularly to develop the framework for each subject area. All three executive certificate programs specifically incorporates all critical elements, and builds onto each of the key topic areas identified by those working parties.
