News from the SOUL desk
The SOUL crew have had a very busy couple of weeks, with 2016 kicking off with a bustle of activity across all areas of the SOUL Award, including over 500 hundred new sign-ups, the first SOUL workshop sessions, and the fresh start of the 2016 SOULstar program.
1. New Enrolments!
2016 SOULstar Harshitha, and SOUL volunteers Deepa, Alumni SOULie Tess, [other names] with the superstrength organising of Shopfront’s Rosie pulled off an amazing start-of-year with enrolment period, with over five hundred students signed up at U:Professional events, and almost three hundred signed up on O-day alone! We’ve also been talking to students at faculty welcomes and orientation events, and the energy has been incredible!! We’re looking forward to working with students, who hail from all faculties, postgraduate and undergraduate, and even some Alumni!

We have officially begun our 2016 SOULstar program, with 13 new and 8 continuing 2015 SOULstars meeting for the first their first training intensive last week. The SOULStars, which include students from most faculties and even some alumni, worked through exercises in exploring educational structures, fixed and growth-based language, team-building, and ways of making change. Thanks to all for bringing such a vibrant energy and openness to the 2 days!
A couple of SOULstars have also started their practice based training, with Ruby and Ian diving into some exercises in Social Issues 101, and new SOULstar Marsha observing Skills for Leaders.
This is just the first step of many in the 2016 SOULstar program, and you should expect to see a lot more of the 21-strong group over the coming months. We’ve got a lot planned for 2016, and we’re excited to be doing with such a thoughtful and active team.
3. March training intensive
We kicked off our Skill Up training for the year with a 2-day intensive for an awesome group of students, including one student who hasn’t started first year yet! Here is a super great photo of the group at the end of the 2-days. Thanks to everyone for sharing your perspectives and energy and being so committed to complete the SOUL workshops before semester has even begun!
