In Spring Semester (July to October) of 2018, The NSW Arts and Health Leadership Group worked with Visual Communication students from UTS on a book themed on 'the power of the arts' that incorporated a diverse group of voices telling their stories (and poems) about their personal experiences of the arts and its impact on their lives. Thinking Thoughts offers people in waiting rooms, people waiting whilst seeking healthcare, a gentle means to think of something different – about the creative arts in our lives and in the lives of others. What the arts can be and what they have offered us. The final printed book has been distributed to waiting rooms and other appropriate spaces in health sites, to help build understanding of the value of the arts in health and wellbeing.
Shopfront received some fantastic feedback from community client Helen Zigmond who worked alongside a student team from the Socially Responsive Design class at the Faculty of UTS: Design, Architecture & Building to design a brand new book. Helen beamed with joy as she told us how the book (which was designed by UTS students) is in high demand, with 560 copies shipped so far with plenty more requests and some amazing feedback from members of the public. The final printed book (for the NSW Arts and Health Leadership Group) has been distributed to waiting rooms and other appropriate spaces in health sites, to help build understanding of the value of the arts in health and wellbeing.
