10 upcycling tips from SOULie Jemma Williams
Earlier this year, Jemma Williams and a group of stellar UTS student volunteers represented Reverse Garbage at the SecondHand Saturday Festival in Ultimo.
On the day the group shared a number of tips and trick with patrons on how to upcycle. So we decided to ask Jemma to give us her top 10 ways to upcycle your ordinary household items:
An old t-shirt can be turned into a cleaning rag or a no sew shopping bag
Keep old clothing or fabric to make into bunting for parties! Save money at baby showers etc. and coordinate in colours to give a hand-made unique feel
Use offcuts paper, magazine or cardboard for craft projects such as paper mache
Cover cereal boxes, shoe boxes or any cardboard boxes with wrapping paper and use them to store/organise things such as tea bags
Make wrapping paper or envelopes out of fabric or paper
Use milo/coffee tins for plant pots don't forget to drill holes!
Re-use glass candle jars as bathroom decor to store cotton swabs/pads
Make a kite from a plastic bag
'Plarn' try knitting or crotchet with plastic such as durable shopping bags
Use any bits and bobs for children's craft or donate to Reverse Garbage in Marrickville. Visit them to learn more about how to repurpose and upcycle.
