UTS is committed to fostering a culture that is inclusive of the LGBTIQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer, Asexual +) community.
The UTS Equity and Diversity Unit within the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion offers a 3-hour ‘Breaking the Binary: gender, sexuality and body diversity’ Awareness Session to staff in all units and faculties across UTS. This is the first required module in becoming a UTS Ally. Find out more about the UTS Ally Program page and contact information for UTS Allies. There are trained UTS Allies across most faculties and units of the university, including in the UTS Counselling Service, UTS Medical Practice, UTS Careers Unit, UTS Housing and Activate Fit Gym. The Equity and Diversity Unit can also assist staff and students to affirm their gender identity. The Trans and Gender Diverse Services Guide aims to help trans and gender diverse members of our community navigate the systems and processes at UTS and make the experience of studying or working at our university as inclusive as possible.
Throughout the year, the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion hosts a number of events and activities to celebrate and commemorate key dates for the LGBTIQA+ community. We also organise a float in the Sydney Mardi Gras bi-annually (next float is in 2020). Organising for the parade begins in November. This is a free and confidential service for all enrolled students. Trained counsellors can help you understand and deal with problems relating to mental health, alcohol and other drugs, body image or eating problems, and support around matters of gender and sexuality. ActivateFit is committed to providing opportunities for everyone regardless of their sex, race, ability, sexual preference, gender identity, bodily diversity, age and religious beliefs. On site, Activate fit have accessible bathrooms, private change facilities, lockers, a private unisex bathroom and a lift. Our friendly staff are always on hand to answer any of your questions about our equipment, classes, and other amenities firsthand.
The Careers Service works closely with graduate recruiters and faculties to facilitate programs and events that equip all UTS students with key employability skills, as well as the knowledge and the confidence vital for success.

Pride in Diversity publishes the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), Australia’s national benchmarking instrument for LGBTI workplace inclusion from which Top Employers for LGBTI people is determined.
