- Part-floor refurbishment completed in Building 4 for the School of Life Sciences and Climate Change Cluster
- Workspaces feature state-of-the-art videoconferencing and ceilings with exposed services
A striking refurbishment project in Building 4, level 6 has just delivered purpose-designed workspaces for the School of Life Science (SoLS) and Climate Change Cluster (C3).
The project reflects UTS’s ongoing commitment to refurbishing existing facilities and follows an extensive, two-year interior upgrade to Building 4 during 2015–2017.
About the spaces
Distinguished by clean, industrial-style design, the workspaces now feature exposed air-conditioning ducts, birch veneer cabinetry, white walls and ‘bay leaf’ green accents, along with motorised meeting room doors. The C3 entry even showcases a colourful aquarium, which has potential to be used for research in the future.
The workspaces incorporate a mix of offices and open-plan workstations with sit-stand desks, a collaborative kitchen and meeting rooms with videoconferencing facilities. The SoLS workspace also features motorised doors in birch plywood, a dedicated area for postdoctoral students and a student breakout space with drop-down power outlets.

What the staff say
Having moved in progressively over recent weeks, staff are currently settling into their new workspaces, and there’s no doubt that the C3 team is enjoying its new environment.
“Our new office is fantastic,” agree Institute Manager Catriona Reid and Administration Officer Melissa Oey on behalf of C3’s professional staff. “It has allowed us to finally have a front-of-house for our institute. Our professional team previously ranged across two buildings so sharing this open space allows for more efficient and cohesive working.”
As well as the bright space, great view of Alumni Green and timber features, the high-tech meeting rooms are a big hit. “We are lucky enough have a boardroom-style meeting room, which we've used every day since moving in,” says Melissa. “The floor-to-ceiling whiteboard is great for brainstorming and strategising, and the videoconferencing with in-built zoom facility has made working with our international collaborators seamless. This modern, bright, technologically advanced space is not just beautiful – it has made working together that much easier.”
