UTS Chancellery refurb means short-term move to Building 3
For the first time in more than than two decades, the UTS Chancellery on level 4 of Building 1 is being refurbished, with construction set to commence in late April 2016.
Forming part of the larger Tower upgrade project, a key component of the City Campus Master Plan, the refurbishment will ensure the Chancellery’s facilities in the heart of our campus reflect its use as a venue for many external engagement events and activities as well as meeting space for visiting dignitaries and other important guests.
Refurbishment of the UTS Chancellery gets underway in late April
The project will see a number of new, and diverse, spaces created within the existing Chancellery space, including offices and workspaces, formal and informal meeting areas and event space that better meet the needs of the senior executive and other staff working within the Chancellery. The decision to refurbish follows extensive consultation and consideration of options including permanently relocating the Chancellery.
With the upgrade work set to take several months, where to for the UTS Chancellery in the interim?
Move to Bon Marche
On Friday 15 April, UTS senior executive and professional staff within the Chancellery will move from Building 1 to Building 3, level 4, making way for construction to commence.
The Chancellery will remain temporarily in Building 3 until the refurbishment is complete, most probably in December 2016. Signage and wayfinding will be in place to assist people find the interim Chancellery location.
Meeting rooms and event space
While the Chancellery is closed for renovation, there will be no access to the space. The two meeting rooms on levels 4a and 4b will therefore not be bookable after Tuesday 12 April and the Chancellery will not be available to book as an event space from this time.
Where possible, UTS staff are asked to hold meetings in their respective office areas. If this is not available, level 22 of the Tower has limited capacity for meetings (email firstname.lastname@example.org to check availability). Colleagues across the campus may also be able to assist with booking meeting areas on their office floors.
The good news is that the upgraded Chancellery will incorporate improved facilities, which will benefit the entire university. We appreciate your patience in the interim.
While all efforts will be made to limit the impact of the construction on the Chancellery’s neighbours, including scheduling noisy works after hours, some disruption will be unavoidable. Those likely to be impacted will be alerted ahead of works starting.
Please email Angie Clements with any questions about the project or contractors and look out for construction updates (and images of the upgraded space) in future issues of UTS: InProgress.
