UTS still leads the pack in international rankings
The latest international university rankings measuring research output, academic reputation and comparing subjects show consistent year-on-year improvements for UTS, as the university continues to shine on the world stage.
The QS World University Rankings 2021 released in June saw UTS secure an impressive seven-place jump to 133rd in the world, while maintaining its ninth position among Australian universities.
UTS was assessed as performing among the top 12 per cent of universities worldwide, with an unbroken record of improvement since 2012, supported by results in several indicators including Citations by Faculty.
Two weeks later, the QS Top 50 Under 50 world rankings of young universities reaffirmed UTS as number one in Australia for the seventh year in a row, and 11th in the world.
UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs said maintaining the leading position in Australia was an encouraging sign that UTS has been on the right course over a number of years, and can tackle the substantial challenges now faced by universities and Australian society as a whole.
“Now more than ever, we need all our rich people-resources working for our country’s prosperity and national wellbeing,” he said.
In July, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) Global Ranking of Academic Subjects saw UTS perform particularly well in the fields of Computing Science and Engineering and Telecommunication Engineering, jumping to the top 20 in the world – up from the top 50 last year – and number one in Australia for both subjects.
Of the 38 UTS subjects ranked, 13 made it into the top 100 in the world. Ten of these subjects were in Engineering and Information Technology fields. Other notable placements included Nursing, which was ranked ninth in the world, Statistics in the 51-75 band, and Hospitality and Tourism Management in the 76-100 band.
Most recently, the results of the 2020 CWTS Leiden ranking of world universities were published, with UTS ranked number one in Australia for the proportion of our research appearing in the top 10 per cent of the most-cited publications in scientific fields. On the measure of overall research collaboration, UTS was ranked second in Australia and 58th in the world, while for international collaboration UTS was ranked second among Australian universities, with a world ranking of 67.
