Undergraduate Internship
26600 Business Internship
We are excited to announce that a new Business Internship undergraduate subject has been made available to all undergraduate Business, Management and Economics students, as an elective subject. Going forward, 26600 Business Internship will replace 21999-25999 Business Internship and 21651 Professional Internship.
As part of 26600 Business Internship you will undertake 100 to 180 hours of work experience within an organisation of your choice that relates to your major of study.
Why complete 26600 Business Internship?
This subject provides a hands-on opportunity for undergraduate business students to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a real workplace environment.
The subject aims to enhance students' employability by increasing student awareness of employers' expectations of performance and conduct, while building valuable work readiness skills such as communication, collaboration, and reflective practice. Students will develop their communication and collaboration skills through their workplace experience. Students will develop social responsibility by reflecting on business and personal decisions using principles of ethical decision making.
Who can undertake 26600 Business Internship?
If you are an undergraduate student studying a Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Management or Bachelor of Economics, you can choose to enrol in the Business Internship subject. Meeting the subject's prerequisites and completing prerequisite tasks is required for enrolment. More information can be found on the 26600 Business Internship page in the UTS Handbook.
When and how can I enrol in 26600 Business Internship
To enrol in the subject, you need to secure an internship and complete the preparatory tasks. The enrolment process involves submitting the required paperwork for assessment. Once your internship is assessed, the Business Internships team will send you an email confirming your enrolment eligibility. It's important to submit your application at least 7 days before the session commencement date.
There are six enrolment sessions available for 2024. Please refer to the following table for the session commencement dates:

- Tuesday 2 April 2024
- Monday 3 June 2024
- Monday 5 August 2024
- Tuesday 8 October 2024
- Monday 2 December 2024
IMPORTANT:
To ensure your approved internship hours count towards the subject, please make sure the internship starts after your enrolled session begins. Any hours completed before that will not be counted.
You have a total of six months from the start of your enrolled session to complete the internship and all subject requirements. However, you don't have to wait for the entire six months to finish, and you can complete the subject earlier if you are in a position to do so.
How to enrol in 26600 Business Internship
Once you secure an internship, there are five steps students need to complete to enrol in 26600 Business Internship. Please read the following steps carefully.
Step 1: Confirm credit points completed
Confirm you have completed the credit point requisite and have not completed the anti-requisite subjects:
Step 2: Confirm your internship meets the required criteria
Ensure your internship meets the following criteria:
- The experience should provide you with opportunities for learning about business and/or managerial functions.
- Internship needs to be 100 -180 hours in duration and can be paid or unpaid.
- Your host organisation/professional setting needs to be registered and approved on Career Hub (or be willing to register. See Step 4 for more information).
- The host organisation/ professional setting needs to nominate a supervisor who will mentor you and provide feedback on your performance while at the internship.
Hint:
- Use the resources provided in the Career Design & Preparation Programme (located in Modules on your Canvas community sites) to help you secure an internship.
- Your internship does not need to be relevant to your major. Rather, you can complete a general business or management internship that aligns closer with your skills, interests and career aspirations.
Step 3: Complete the CDPP and Quiz
Complete the Career Design and Preparation Programme (CDPP located in modules on your Canvas community site) as well as the final Quiz. More information can about the CDPP can be found on the Internships page
- Achieve 8/10 correct answers (multiple attempts at reaching 80% are permitted).
- Screenshot your final score and upload it to your placement summary form in Step 4 below as a JPG or PNG format.
Please note: Falsification of the above document will be classified as misconduct and will jeopardise your enrolment in 26600 Business Internship. The subject administrator will be verifying quiz completion on canvas, prior to approving enrolment.
IMPORTANT: If the internship start date or intended session of enrolment is fast approaching, please complete at least Parts 1, 6 and 7 of the CDPP, and the final quiz
Step 4: Complete the required sections on the CareerHub workflow
Login to CareerHub and access the 26600 Business Internship workflow: https://careerhub.uts.edu.au/students/workflows/detail/222
Complete and submit ‘Your Responsibilities’, ‘Select Organisation’, ‘Select UTS Supervisor’ and ‘Submit Placement Summary form’ sections.
Please note:
- Your organisation will need to register on CareerHub and be approved to be able to host you as their intern. Please see registration information below. Approval of registration may take up to 3 business days.
- If you are unsure of whether your organisation has registered on CareerHub, please email businessinternships@uts.edu.au and this will be verified for you.
Host Organisation Registration information:
- The host organisation will be required to register on CareerHub. The ‘Register an Employer Guide’, available in the left-hand menu, provides step-by-step instructions on how to register.
- Complete the Workplace Health and Safety Form.
- If the position is unpaid, complete the Internship Agreement Form
- You can also direct your host to Host Organisations which provides information on UTS Business internship subject requirements.

Step 5: Enrol in 26600 Business Internship
Once you complete steps 1-4 above, you will receive an email confirming you are approved to self-enrol in the subject, through My Student Admin. You can enrol in February, April, June, August, October, or December short sessions.

The Business Internships team host regular information sessions, providing crucial details on 26600 enrolment and program structure. The session recording is available on the Canvas community site under modules.
