I can confidently say that this has proved to be the best investment I’ve made in my life!
Why did you choose to undertake postgraduate studies? When I came across the Master of Business and Technology (MBT, formerly MBITM) at UTS, I was at a point in my career where an MBA would have boosted my chances of moving up the ladder but I wasn’t sure it was worth investing the time and money. I was not interested in collecting another ‘piece of paper’ - I was seeking a transformational learning experience.
What is your role and what does it involve? I am a Program Architect at NAB MLC. My role is to translate business needs into pragmatic technology solutions, aligned with the overall enterprise strategy. Ultimately I'm responsible for influencing the business in making more informative technology decisions. Through the Master of Business and Technology, I developed the necessary business skills and awareness to confidently articulate the benefits of using technology as a strategic asset used to ‘unlock’ business opportunities. My postgraduate studies have given me the confidence to start my own company and provide consulting services to large corporations with enormous personal and professional rewards. Looking back, I can confidently say that this has proved to be the best investment I’ve made in my life!
What did you think of the lecturers at UTS and their style of teaching? The lectures of the Master of Business and Technology are great educators and all have decades of industry experience that helps bringing ‘alive’ the contents and keeping the curriculum up to date. They are also great facilitators and regularly trigger thought-provoking classroom discussions from which there is always a lot to learn from. Being in an environment with 20-30 high profile students enriches the whole learning experience even further by benefiting from being exposed to different perspectives.
What is the most valuable thing you learnt while at UTS? Two major lessons came out of the Master of Business and Technology experience for me: firstly, self-reflection as a critical tool to harness both successes and failures empowering me to become a more effective leader and secondly, the importance of having access to our MBT community made up of like-minded individuals who are always available to support each other.
