Practice-based learning extends beyond the lecture theatre, UTS:Law participates in the Summer Clerkship and Graduate Employment Program. Run in conjunction with top-tier Sydney law firms and major government departments, these programs allow penultimate and final-year law students to apply what they have learned in a legal workplace environment. Students who participate develop a greater understanding of employment opportunities and legal experience, while developing their CVs before they even graduate. UTS:Law works in conjunction with the Law Students’ Society to provide a range of support services for interested students throughout the year.
Our inclusion in the Summer Clerkship and Graduate Employment Program is designed to ensure that you graduate from UTS:Law with the knowledge and hands-on experience sought by employers worldwide, with the professional contacts you need to help you land that coveted graduate role.
Admission to the Supreme Court of NSW to practice as a lawyer is based upon the successful completion of a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and an accredited course of Practical Legal Training (PLT). The unique feature of UTS is the convenience of completing the optional PLT at the same institution as your Juris Doctor or undergraduate law degree, at the same university-standard level of teaching.
UTS is largest university provider of PLT in NSW, and all our courses are accredited by the Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB). As it is a requisite for the practice of law in NSW, the inclusion of the PLT is an integral feature of UTS’ focus on practice-based learning.
