Indigenous Literacy Day
In past years, we ran a story making workshop for Years 5-6, in partnership with Sydney Story Factory where students worked within a team and individually create a zine - a short magazine, that they could share with their friends and family.
At the end of the day every student took home a printed book with their own photo on the back cover and their specially crafted story inside.
For Years 7-9, we ran a digital storytelling workshop where students worked with renowned author, director and actor Leah Purcell, using technology to tell their story through sound, pictures, text and video. they learned about creating a narrative and how to look at their identity as young Indigenous Australians.
Students were posted their own DVD featuring their story podcast shortly after the workshop.
There were also creative writing packs, free books, free lunch and other activities hosted by UTS Library.
