What did you do before you started your NP course?
I was working as a Transitional Emergency Nurse Practitioner
What position do you currently hold?
I am currently working as an Authorised Nurse Practitioner (Critical care – Emergency)
What motivated you to undertake postgraduate study?
The Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) course is a part of obligation to being an authorised nurse practitioner. Being an authorised nurse practitioner required advanced knowledge and skills which must be obtained through advanced studies such as pharmacology, pathophysiology and physical assessment and diagnosis etc. I loved learning more advanced knowledge which enables me to be an excellent nurse practitioner.
Why did you choose UTS?
UTS has developed well constructed curriculums by excellent coordinators compared to other universities. It was fascinating to learn from experienced academics. The coordinators review the course each semester. They are constantly developing better construction for current and future students and supporting students to get through the course.
What have you gained from your studies?
I achieved my authorisation at the end of the study and UTS supported me through my hard journey in a structured way. All major subjects for the nurse practitioner course were relevant and current and the course helped me to improve on my previous experiences. I gained my confidence from the course and now I have excellent knowledge and skills to practice as an authorised emergency nurse practitioner. The course made me an independent practitioner continuing to study and learn about what I needed to provide the best health care service for my clients and patients.
What was it like to study at UTS?
It was a very positive experience. We had excellent support from our subject coordinators. I don't think I would have survived without their support during the semester. They encouraged me to achieve what I really need to learn and know.
What advice would you give to students who are studying this degree?
I would say "Be passionate and don't lose the passion from your heart during the journey".
Being an authorised nurse practitioner is one of the hardest I've had to take in my career progression but it is worth it and you'll feel and proud yourself for being able to be independent practitioner in Australia.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to be an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, making and encouraging an excellent environment for future nurse practitioners.
