Thesis topic: Improving the pharmacokinetic profile of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid derived lipid mediators to target cancer
Supervisor(s): Associate Professor Mary Bebawy (School of Pharmacy, UTS), Dr Tristan Rawling (School of Pharmacy, UTS)
“I’m implementing drug design strategies to improve the pharmacokinetic properties of a novel lipid based anticancer drug developed in a collaboration between UTS and The University of Sydney. To elaborate, the lead molecule has a very poor solubility, effectively limiting its usability as a drug in practice. I’m attempting to change the structure in several places to improve its ability to dissolve whilst avoiding changes in the molecule that reduce the anticancer drug activity. As part of this I am able to collaborate with groups from different institutions including The University of Sydney.” Says PhD Candidate Curtis Pazderka.
“I chose to complete my PhD at UTS because I found the project interesting and enjoy the academic and social environment of the GSH. Even over the short time I have been here at UTS I have been inundated with opportunity to further my academic, career and social interests.”
