I’m Sally Gartland and I’m doing Honours in Environmental Biology at UTS.
Since the start of High School I always knew I wanted to do Science. And I can’t think of a field of science that is more important or relevant
The increasing awareness of the environmental issues our planet is facing today made me realise the urgency to find solutions.
One thing I won’t forget is learning about how the landscape changes as you move away from the coast and towards the arid zone. It’s unbelievable how the vegetation alone can tell you so much about the climate of an area if you know what to look for.
The challenging part was camping in subzero temperatures, of course, but we were given plenty of information before the trip about gear we needed and the amazing technical staff made sure we had everything we needed to stay comfortable.
The most memorable thing was getting to see some parts of Australia in its natural form with minimal human interference. Australia is such a beautiful country with so much to discover so I feel lucky to have explored it with experts by my side.
