Richard Phillips: Photography and Situated Media Student
Richard: I chose to study photography and situated media to further my own practice in photography, and to gain a better understanding of how to use photography as a medium for communication. And the practical work that we do has really strengthened my ability in photography but also taught me new things and new ways to express myself that I previously couldn’t have imagined.
We’re quite lucky in the course because UTS is very well equipped with some of the latest photographic equipment, high end computers, two dark rooms as well. Its a full photographic facility, and perhaps one of the best in the state if not Australia.
I think one of the cooler things over the year has been some of the exhibitions we’ve held as part of some of the subjects. Another great thing about the course is that we’re quite a tight knit bunch. Us and our tutors are quite close and we share a direct line of communication with each other over the course of the years. And you just don’t find that in many other degrees where you can easily just blend into a mass of hundreds.
