Introduction to BIM
Building information modelling (BIM) is a 3D modelling process used to plan, design and build a range of construction projects. Construction industry professionals are increasingly expected to have an understanding of BIM in order to stay competitive in the field. This course will introduce you to BIM fundamentals and provide you with hands-on experience using leading BIM software.
Who is it for?
This workshop is aimed at construction industry professionals with limited BIM experience.
Here’s what you’ll study
This course will familiarise you with basic BIM concepts, including parametric object-based modelling. You’ll learn to create, navigate and manage a range of BIM processes, and engage effectively with other stakeholders in order to deliver basic BIM projects.
You’ll also develop fundamental skills using Revit and Navisworks, two industry standard BIM software packages. By gaining hands-on experience with these programs, you’ll build a holistic understanding of BIM as a tool as a key tool that’s shaping your industry.
Here’s how you’ll study it
This course runs over two days in UTS’s revitalised 5D BIM Lab. As well as gaining extensive hands-on BIM experience, you’ll also be given supplementary reading material to provide context for your learning.
And here’s what you’ll get at the end
By the end of this course, you will understand:
- basic and applied BIM concepts
- how to use Revit and Navisworks software
- how to use 3D and 4D models for clash detection, quantity and material take-off schedules, timelines and other applications.
Meet the presenters
Mohamed Khallaf is a BIM consultant, researcher and lecturer who has worked extensively in 3D, 4D and green BIM. With more than 12 years’ experience in architecture, landscape, engineering and construction, Mohamed is an expert in tall building design optimisation and wind resilience.
Christopher Brown is a highly experienced Revit and Navisworks teacher who provides a classroom perspective on industry problems. As a researcher, he is focused on improving pedagogical practices within the construction industry, including in educational institutions and the private sector.
