Expression of interest (PhD)
Submitting your Expression of Interest
Before applying for a postgraduate research degree with UTS Business School, you should submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to our UTS Business School Research Office.
You should review our areas of excellence in research, and individual researchers and their expertise in UTS Business School (Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Health Economics and Data Analytics). This will provide you with an understanding of the research undertaken at UTS Business School, and give you an indication of the possible areas of research study. This will also assist you in writing a research proposal for your EOI submission.
It is best to enquire well ahead (at least two months) before closing dates of formal applications. Refer to Research degrees at UTS for these closing dates. Submitting an EOI before you formally apply to enrol for a PhD degree saves significant time for you and also speeds up the process of the formal application. The EOI process will take between three weeks to two months from the time we receive all the documents we request.
Note that before submitting your EOI, you should be familiar with the formal application for Research degrees at UTS.
NOTE: The EOIs for Economics 2020 intake are closed.
Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised master's by research or bachelor's degree with first or second class honours (division 1), or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate research studies. Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.
English language requirement
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 7.0 overall with a writing score of 7.0; or TOEFL: 94-101 overall with a writing score of 23.
Career options include management-level positions in industry or government, and academic positions.
Finding a supervisor
Applicants are not required to find a supervisor prior to contacting UTS Business School. The EOI process matches your research interests to those of our leading academics, who are also experienced supervisors.
UTS Scholarships are offered once a year for the intake in January for full-time enrolments only. Scholarships may be offered for the intake in July if there are available scholarships. The number of scholarships is limited and very competitive, thus only the top elite applicants are offered. You can find more information on Research scholarships on the Research degrees at UTS page.
Masters by research
We do not offer Master by research/MPhil in the Business School.
