What is your role and what does it involve? I first started working at CommBank as an intern in their Enterprise Services department. I enjoyed working in an environment with so many different ideas and creations contributing toward better banking standards in Australia. Today, I still work with the Bank as a Senior Service Delivery Analyst. I manage the relationship between the business and technology departments during major incidents. I also provide governance on projects affecting their systems and ensure everything is delivered as smoothly as possible.
How did your experience at UTS prepare you for your role? My degree set me up for the real work. My internship trained me in essential communication and technical skills, both of which are important in my current role. And I was able to directly apply theory I was learning in class at my work, so the theory made better sense to me.
What was your favourite aspect about studying at UTS? While at UTS, I was the Secretary for the Engineers Without Borders UTS chapter. I was able to see engineering in practice and the importance of engineering to society. My experience helped build up my confidence in my engineering skills. I also joined BUiLD and received a $1000 grant to attend Summer School in Paris at Télécom École de Management (Telecom Business School).
What advice would you give those thinking of studying at UTS: Engineering? Think. Change. Do. Aim to live that motto while at UTS. Join societies that use engineering to improve the world around you. It will help you with making friends, as well as encourage creative thinking and application in a comfortable environment.
