How can UTS Careers help postgrad students?
UTS Careers is made up of a fantastic team of experts who are there to help you with your questions and concerns when you're thinking about employment. As a postgrad, if you can't find out answers to your basic questions on Career Hub, then your first port of call is to drop into our Careers office, located in UTS Central, Building 2, Level 4, Room 221.
We have recruitment advisors available to see, even without an appointment. This service is designed to be quick and easy for the more straight-forward career enquiries. This could be to have your resume or Linkedin profile reviewed or to get some resources to help you with your job search and the recruitment process. However, postgrads often have unique and complex requirements that may need more indepth or multiple appointments, and that's where I come in.
I'm Candy Jenkins - the postgrad career consultant - and I'm the dedicated career specialist working with students across faculties, whether you're a PhD or a Masters student. Students see me for a range of reasons; such as, they're struggling to get past the application stage and are not being invited to interviews, or they may be having doubts about their course, or their majors, or submajors they have to choose. I've worked with students who are extremely nervous with interviews and need support in preparing and practising their interview technique. And there are others I've worked with who are very clear about the direction they want to take but just want confirmation that they're heading in the right direction and doing everything possible to succeed. They use me as a sounding board to clarify their ideas.
Postgrads are entitled to four one-to-one consultations with me each year. It's really up to them how often they come to see me, and I will customise my approach and my advice according to what stage that postgrad is in their career.
