UTS Pride Week!
UTS Pride Week is just around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited! Join us for an incredible week of activities as we celebrate the strength, love and diversity of the UTS queer community. With health workshops, career mentoring, and even UTS’s first LGBTQIA-inclusive prom, there’s something for everyone, so register your interest now!
Mon 16 Sept
Are you a seasoned drag veteran looking to brush up on your skills, or new to the gender-bending scene and don’t know where to start? Drop by CB05C.01.30 at 1pm for local drag king Marlena Dali’s drag workshop. Come as you are or in drag – your choice! Costumes and wigs will be provided but feel free to bring your own along.
Once you’ve brushed up on your drag skills, you can head to our Drag Night at the Underground from 6pm. Strut your stuff at this epic lip sync showcase, or come along to support your fabulous friends. Entry is a $5 donation, which will go to LGBTQIA+ youth charity Twenty10.
Tues 17 Sept
We know safety comes first, which is why we’ve added an LGBTQIA+ sexual health workshop to the agenda. It'll run from 10-11am in CB05C.02.43.
For those who want to take safety to the streets, head to CB05C.02.41 at 2pm for our self-defence workshop with Newtown Martial Arts instructor Penny Gulliver.
Wed 18 Sept
Do you have a coming out story? Was it hilarious? Heartbreaking? Or somewhere in between? Drop by the Queer Space at 11am for a relaxed, supportive discussion about coming out. And hey, there’ll be cake!
Later on, you can come to CB05B.05.17 at 2pm for Headspace’s mental health workshop and give your brain a well-deserved check-up. We’ll be covering topics such as resilience, self-care, seeking help, and general mental wellbeing.
Thurs 19 Sept
Be honest – how job-ready are you? Register for a speed mentoring session in CB11.03.301 with representatives from leading companies and have a chat to an LGBTQIA+ mentor for 15 minutes. This event will run from 10am-1pm, so you have plenty of time to book a slot.
If you’re a history buff, pop in to CB04.3.330 at 5pm for a talk on LGBTQIA+ history. Hear from Fiona Hulme and Frank Howarth, who marched in Australia’s first Mardi Gras and pioneered the LGBTQIA+ movement.
Fri 20 Sept
Get your party shoes on! We’re ending Pride Week with UTS’s very first Pride Prom. Swing by the Aerial Function Centre from 6pm for an inclusive, LGBTQIA-friendly high school-style prom.
We'll be pumping your favourite tunes all night, so be prepared to get your boogie on and dance the night away. Buffet-style snacks will be on offer, and stay tuned for details about a sneaky bar tab.
