Before you apply for a practical experience placement, you should read the rules. Please note there are four sets of rules for students enrolled in the subject Practical Experience (75411) and you will need to select the rules that pertian to your enrolment situation. Please download the rules for the session you are enrolled in the subject Practical Experience (75411):
- Prior to Autumn 2016 OR;
- From Autumn 2016 - Autumn 2017 OR;
- From Spring 2017 - Summer 2017/18 OR;
- Autumn 2018 onwards
How to apply
To apply for any retrospective and/or intended PE approval download and complete Form 1 - Application for Practical Experience Placement Approval.
Ensure any intended supervisor receives a copy of the letter 'Introduction for practitioner supervisors'. Once again, please download the intoduction letter for the session you are enrolled in the subject Practical Experience (75411):
You cannot seek approval prior to enrolling in your practical legal training (PLT) course.
Ensure that you and your supervisor have signed where required. You should provide the Form 1 and a copy of the Practical Experience Rules to your supervisor.
You must provide a completed original, hard copy of Form 1 to the Faculty via the Law Reception desk or by mail to:

Applications must be received at the Faculty by close of business on the Wednesday preceeding the Practical Experience Committee (PEC) meeting date. Upcoming meeting dates for the PEC are:
* The LPAB has advised that a “simple” application for admission must be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to your preferred ceremony date. Visit the LPAB's Guide for Applicants for Admission as a Lawyer for more information.
**Last meeting to finalise completion of Practical Experience and process result in time for AUT19 graduation is the 12/02/2019. Submissions are due by the 06/02/2019.
*** Last meeting to finalise completion of Practical Experience and process result in time for SPR19 graduation is the 23/07/2019. Submissions are due by the 17/07/2019. **** Last meeting to finalise completion of Practical Experience for the January 2020 LPAB application deadline. Note: Due to the Christmas period, Dean’s certificates and Official Transcripts will not be available for collection until the week of the LPAB deadline.
The meetings dates are subject to change and have not been scheduled to coincide with the LPAB's application deadlines for admission purposes.
Please note that the 2019 meetings are held on Tuesdays. Submissions for each meeting must be received at the Faculty of Law by close of business the preceding Wednesday.
