Science and Mathematics Education Research and Innovation (SciMerit)
We research the learning and teaching of mathematics and science at tertiary level, with extensions to high school and transition contexts.
Dr Mary Coupland (Team Leader)
Mary researches the learning and teaching of mathematics, and ways to raise participation in maths in high schools. She is co-leader of the /Maths Inside/ project. The project includes resource development and also research into teaching mathematics for engagement.
Julia is a PhD candidate in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. She is the Manager of the UTS Maths and Science Study Centre which runs a Drop-in Room, bridging and other short courses, and supports the learning of mathematics and statistics for students across the university.
Blair is dedicated to developing a positive learning experience in the tertiary environment, which includes transition from high school, and graduation to employment. Her learning topics centre on biology; and her research encompasses learning for comprehension and long-term memory, using feedback as feed-forward, use of digital technologies in learning, and work-integrated learning.
Jurgen conducts research into Authentic Learning Practises and the application of Learning Analytics and Educational Data Mining in higher education. He often presents at national and international conferences about his passion for authentic learning in science and engineering.
David’s research is focused on how non-science students learn any science that is part of their program. He is part of a cross-institutional team (funded by the Office of Learning and Teaching) working on resources for enrolled nurses commencing a BN program.
