Biostatistician Professor awarded Honorary Doctorate by Belgian University
When it comes to biostatistics, Professor Louise Ryan is at the top of the game. Her advancement of the environmental and health field—combined with encouraging women in the STEM fields—has been recognised internationally with an Honorary Doctorate from University of Ghent.
The number of women in statistics defies the mainstream perception of low levels of women in STEM related careers. Nowadays more women are enrolled in statistics degrees at university and according to Glassdoor, data scientists are considered the ‘hottest jobs’ of 2016. However, Professor Ryan has her own theory.
The auditorium where the presentations took place is called ‘Rotonde’, which is located in the ‘Aula Academica Gent’, one of the oldest buildings of Ghent University.
