The Insect Research Facility's research and development focus is the control of urban pests.
UTS have modern laboratory facilities which include insect breeding rooms and insecticide application and evaluation laboratories.
We carry out studies for the development of new insecticide and repellent molecules and formulations as well as generating data for product registration and marketing. The two principal staff are Mr Bryce Peters and Dr Peter Miller who have been working in the field of urban entomology and evaluation of insecticides and repellents for 30 years. The laboratories have a range of equipment including WHO mosquito chambers. Peet Grady Chamber, automatic aerosol dispensers and Potter spray tower.
We also carry out field trials. Australia has a wide climatic range from cool temperate to tropical with a wide range of urban pests. These include termites, cockroaches, mosquitoes, fleas, ants and spiders.
