UTS Chinese Herbal Medicine Clinic
Chinese herbal medicine has a long history of use, dating back millennia and it continues to be used in many countries today as the first and primary treatment of choice.
Herbal medicine traditionally involved the use of raw herbs boiled in water for a period of time, with the subsequent broth reduced to concentrate the active ingredients which was then consumed as a liquid tea. While raw herbs continue to be used in contemporary practice, a range of other options for taking herbal medicine are also available.
At the UTS Chinese Herbal Medicine Clinic, we've brought together a group of expert practitioners with a broad range of clinical experiences in the same clinic for your convenience. Our practitioners are experienced and highly trained clinicians specialising in the use of Chinese herbal medicines for a wide range of illness and dysfunction. Our staff can assist you in deciding whether Chinese herbal medicine will be of benefit to your health.
The practitioners at the UTS Chinese Herbal Medicine Clinic recognise that not all individuals and their related lifestyles allow for the time to prepare herbal medicine in raw form. As such, Chinese herbal medicine is also available in a granulated form (which is easily transported and dissolved in a glass of water), in capsules or pill form which some people may find easier to consume. Your practitioner will discuss with you these different herbal options and will consider your lifestyle and circumstances in determining the best options according to your needs.
Consultations often take 20-40 minutes, with initial consultations taking up to one hour in length. During this time you will be asked a range of questions relating to your health concerns and the impact they are having on your daily life. In addition to questioning, the practitioner may also take your blood pressure, observe your facial colour, look at the colour of your tongue and also palpate your pulse. Based on this diagnostic information, you will be advised as an individual (related to your signs and symptoms) the best approach to take in terms of treatment.
