Python is a programming language widely used for web and software development or scientific and numeric computing. This one-day course will give you an introduction to coding with this versatile language or for refreshing existing skills.
The world is increasingly driven by software and data – and programming skills are in demand. Python is a popular high-level, interpreted, object-oriented and interactive programming language. It is ideal for rapid application development in business, education and many other fields.
You’ll begin with an introduction to Python and installing IPython notebooks, which combine code, media and other information into an easily sharable document. Learning to interact with Python involves variables, numbers, string indexing and print formatting. This is followed by a comparison of operators and Python statements, dictionaries in Python, and methods and functions. The day concludes with an introduction to data visualisation and libraries.
Software creation and data processing are integral and essential to many industries. Course participants may include professionals who wish to process data using Python, and those looking to develop a career in data science or machine learning. No prior experience in basic computer programming is required.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Create and use IPython notebooks
- Write simple scripts in Python
- Perform simple to complex calculations
- Conduct simple data visualisation and statistical tests
- Introduction to Python (Installation and IPython notebooks)
- Interacting with Python
- Variables, numbers, strings, string indexing
- Print formatting
- Comparison operators and Python statements
