World’s Thinnest Monitor Is Alumni Gold!
A new business created by three UTS engineering alumni wins Gold at the 2020 Good Design Awards Australia!
Scott McKeon (Civil Engineering), Will Scuderi and Fabian Maritato (Mechanical Engineering) met on campus and established Espresso Displays in 2018 to meet a ‘pain point’ for mobile workers who need an additional monitor. This Award is the latest recognition of how they identified a real need and have been able to learn and grow to meet it.
“It started with a basic question. Working on our laptops we just thought “Wouldn't it be great if we had a second screen….” and from there discovered a very real need for an ultra-light monitor that can turn your laptop into a portable workspace, anywhere.” says Scott.
So how did three engineering graduates work outside subject and comfort zones not related to their studies? It was really about adaptability – following their idea, immersion in a world they knew nothing about, and being able acknowledge the risk of failure, said Scott. Read more
