The School of Information, Systems and Modelling (ISM) is engaged in interdisciplinary, cross-faculty, and collaborative research in many areas including:
- Design and analysis of increasingly complex systems
- Service innovation
- Communications and social structures needed for innovation
- Design thinking methods to foster innovation in system design
- Operations and risk management
- Planning systems theory and practice
- Sustainability and policy development
The above programs are closely coupled to applications in various industry projects that ISM researchers are engaged in. These include delivery of health information systems, environmental modelling, disaster management, supply chain management, geospatial systems, social media applications and others. ISM research is organised into three groups detailed below.
Centre for Advanced Modelling and Geospatial lnformation Systems (CAMGIS)
This Centre is focused on developing and applying innovative information technologies related research, focusing on Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS), Sensor, Visualisation, and Numerical Modelling in Earth Observation, Disaster Management, and Earth Resources Management.

Centre on Persuasive Systems for Wise Adaptive Living (PERSWADE)
In many cases it is not that the science is uncertain or unknown, it is more that the public prefers to ignore it because the change is unwelcome and is against prevailing biases, beliefs, norms, traditions and values. These can and sometimes should change. The Centre is developing persuasive technologies and methods for social innovation that can help humanity to move toward sustainable, wise, adaptive living, realizing that our well-being and prosperity are very much dependent upon the Earth life-support system.
