Decision Support Systems and Complex Modelling
CAMGIS embarks research on the demonstration of the complexity of relationship between the climate changes (both at micro and macro levels) and its direct impact on natural hazards in Australia. It will also focus on the utilization of geoinformation technologies (GIT) to study natural disasters and to provide technical solutions to the local councils. Additionally, the centre will research about the different types of prevailing natural hazards (i.e. bushfires, coastal erosion, floods, mass movements etc.) to reduce the impacts that can be taken prior to their occurrence, by adapting spatial information technologies (Decision Support Systems) to support increased coordination among multiple programs of risk management by examining the application of these technologies to the task of identifying, analysing, assessing, treating and monitoring. The increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters coupled with technical advances mean that there are interesting paradigms and scenarios that have come forth, posing both opportunities for the proposed CAMGIS.
