Global Short Programs in Berlin
Jerry was drawn to Germany for his Global Short Programs summer program. He chose Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), one of the most famous universities in the country.
Jerry Lam wanted to go abroad from his first year at UTS.
Near the end of the spring semester I got an email from Global Short Programs about the summer exchange program. I was thinking to do my first internship that summer, but this summer might be the last chance for me to do a short-term program – so I went for it!
A longtime fan of German food and culture, and avid childhood reader of European history, Jerry was drawn to Germany for his program. He chose TU Berlin, one of the most famous universities in the country.
Jerry loved the TUB winter program, which included activities to allow students to experience German culture and history, and side trips to cities Dresden and Potsdam, his favourite part of the program.
He also loved meeting students coming from all around the world, and the project based group work that required students to apply classroom knowledge to solve real problems.
As for Berlin itself, Jerry’s experience highlighted the contrast between the long history of the city and its destruction during the war. He noted that Berlin is nearly a new city, having been rebuilt after the war.
You can see strong contrast of the architectural style between eastern and western Berlin. The highlights of Berlin of course are historical landmarks such as the Berlin wall, the German parliament and the Brandenburg Gate. It’s the best city for the history fans.
Jerry highly recommends Global Short Programs. He describes it as a good chance to live and study in another country and experience a different culture.
You will gain and learn a lot from this program that you will never get travelling on your own. It’s a must do in your university life.
