Global Studies student becomes CEO for a day
Neil Hussain, a UTS Bachelor of Global Studies student, was selected to be the first participant of the Australian CEOx1Day program.
CEOx1Day is a global initiative by executive recruitment firm, Odgers Berndtson. The program provides university students with the opportunity to spend a day shadowing a successful CEO.
UTS Bachelor of Global Studies student, Neil Hussain, was selected as a finalist and was paired with Steve Weston, the Chief Executive of Volt Bank. Neil flew to Melbourne and spent a full day shadowing Steve, learning about his background, career path and leadership approach.
Being selected for Odgers Berndtson's program was a staggering and rare opportunity to shadow the brilliant Steve Weston, CEO of Volt Bank, for a day. Flying with Steve to Melbourne and being able to listen to and interact with some of the top tier leaders and change-makers in Australia was intriguing and allowed me the opportunity to form an idea of what it means to lead by example.
Volt Bank, and the most successful start ups of the future, care about what’s best for their customers and employees and I’m excited to see the positive societal impacts they will be making in the years to come. Thank you Steve, Volt Bank, and Odgers Berndtson who provided me with this incredibly unique experience.

Volt Bank is a digital startup that aims to disrupt the financial sector. Earlier this year, it became Australia's first digital challenger bank to be granted a fully-fledged banking licence. Neil's professional major in Business alongside his knowledge of globalisation and problem-solving made him an ideal candidate for the partnership.
