Empathy in a digital age
Summary: At UTS, learning doesn’t just occur within classrooms. Communication student Madelyn Lines reveals how casual work with the Faculty of Health has helped her understand the importance of empathy and helped students become better nurses, too.
Madelyn Lines is a UTS communication student who has been working with the Faculty of Health to film and produce Digital Stories of Diversity – a series of videos that combine narrative-based learning with multimedia to expose first-year nursing students to other people’s views and experiences of healthcare.
From September, students in the subject Communication and Diversity will watch the videos online before attending tutorials and use them to spark discussions on issues like communication, cultural safety, social justice, stereotypes and respecting alternate worldviews.
