Access Journalism and its impact on Investigative Journalism
UTS Journalism hosted a panel discussion bringing together five of Australia’s top investigative journalists to discuss the growing influence of 'access journalism'.
Moderated by Professor Peter Manning, the esteemed panel of participants included Kate McClymont (Nine Media), Marian Wilkinson (formerly of Four Corners, ABC TV), Quentin Dempster (former host 7.30 report NSW), Chris Masters – author and former Four Corners reporter, and Brian Toohey (Columnist and feature writer for The Australian Financial Review, and columnist for The West Australian and The Canberra Times).
The basis of the discussion is Professor Peter Manning’s research into the phenomenon of ‘access journalism’ and its impact on the coverage of Australia’s relationship with China, for the Australia China Relations Institute at UTS Sydney”
Discussing key journalistic tenets such as ethical dealing with sources, evidence-based information, trust, and headline versus investigative journalism, attendees were provided valuable insights on the impact of access journalism.
