The Big Lift is a volunteering organisation at UTS launched in 2010.
The Big Lift is a volunteering organisation in UTS founded on the philosophy of ‘paying-it-forward’ and how small acts of kindness and volunteering helps build stronger communities and student leaders.
Through our unique volunteering-based events we aim to show how fun and rewarding it is to give back to others; allow students to meet like-minded people, and help students professionally develop by promoting a sense of civic duty and leadership.
What we do
The Big Lift runs an annual flagship event in July – a week-long volunteering road trip across regional NSW. This trip involves 80 students, 10 towns, 9 days, and 2 buses, in 1 big adventure. We visit under-resourced regional communities and undertake service projects which create a meaningful impact on the towns, as well as a unique and powerful student experience.
During the semester, The Big Lift also organises ‘Little Lifts’ (weekend trips to similar regional communities); local service projects and volunteering experiences around Sydney; and fun social events such as hikes, camps, and trivia nights.
How to get involved
The Big Lift only costs $5 to join! All UTS staff and students are welcome to participate in our service projects and events. The flagship event in July requires an application and trip fee due to it being a much bigger event with a large number of applicants each year.
