Step inside UTS Central
- UTS Central will open its doors to students, staff and the community in mid-2019
- Watch the video below for a sneak peek virtual tour of some of the highlight spaces, inside and out
The newest member of the UTS campus family is UTS Central, a curved structure encased in glass nestled between our iconic brutalist Tower and the aluminium wrapped Faculty of Engineering and IT building on Broadway.
While UTS Central is yet to be finished, it’s already become a striking landmark on the southern entry to Sydney’s CBD. It’s an inspired addition to the architectural diversity of our campus that will be even more impressive when construction is complete later this year.
To give you an idea of what’s in store, take a sneak peek virtual tour of UTS Central via this 3D animated video.
You’ll begin on Broadway and follow the building’s curved glass façade around to Alumni Green, taking in views of the generous level 8 outdoor terraces. A short walk up the stairs takes you inside the vibrant student hub in the level 4 lobby, filled with study spaces and student services. Up on level 7, you’ll view the sun-drenched UTS Reading Room with its triple-height atrium and rows of quiet work spaces. Your tour ends underground in the 270-seat Hive Super Lab, where specialist AV facilities will allow up to seven classes to run simultaneously.
Inspirational electronic music plays over views of the UTS Central façade, shown via a 3D animation. The viewer circles the building from Broadway to Alumni Green, then walks up the stairs into the level 4 lobby, filled with study spaces and student services.
The animation then reveals the interior of the UTS Reading Room, with its triple height light-filled atrium, before moving to the underground Hive Super Lab, with its colourful workspaces.
UTS Central is due to open in mid-2019.
UTS Central will also be home to UTS Library and the Faculty of Law, plus large collaborative theatres, research spaces for the Faculty of Engineering and IT, a food court and lots more.
While the first public spaces will open around the middle of this year, including the new food court, there will be a staged opening of spaces and facilities. The Reading Room and Library are expected to open their doors at the end of 2019, with the Hive Super Lab holding classes from 2020.
