The major supports for the role of grievance handlers at UTS are the policies and guidelines developed by the University.
In some senses the policies and guidelines also constitute a constraint. This is because grievance handlers do not have the freedom to deal with complaints in any way they wish based on personal style or different types of complaints.
UTS policies aim to embed best practice principles into our grievance handling practices. This is to ensure that those who handle grievances are supported in the often difficult work of successfully reaching the closure of a grievance.
UTS policies are designed to:
- Ensure procedural fairness
- Facilitate a consistent handling of grievances across faculties and units
- Meet best practice standards of grievance handling
In addition, UTS has a number of internal units who can provide you with expert advice in relation to particular types of grievances.
