Helen Gillam

Biography

Helen Gillam is a lecturer in financial accounting. Her major research interests are the natural environment and the manner in which accounting needs to recognise and present conservation interests, particularly regarding environmental obligations and the rethinking of the value of many items previously characterised as externalities. She is also following the development of carbon tax and carbon trading regimes and the impact they will have on financial reporting.

Helen previously worked for a number of private and public sector organisations as a financial accountant and business analyst. She is a member of the Board and Treasurer of the Environmental Defenders Office and is also a Director and Honorary Treasurer of The Women’s Club and the Chair of the Finance Committee. She is active in a number of community groups, particularly those with an environmental focus.
