International Student Exchange Program (External)

The Australian Government encourages Australian students to immerse themselves in social and academic cultures of other countries and provides opportunities for international students to study in and experience Australia. The International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), provides funding to eligible Australian higher education providers to support the participation of both outgoing Australian exchange students and incoming international exchange students.

Value and duration

These scholarships provide funding of up to A$5000 to subsidise the cost of student exchange and may be used at the awardees discretion.

Who is eligible?

Outgoing student subsidies
UTS Students who are meet the following criteria are eligible to receive outgoing student subsidies;

  • Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents
  • Participating in an exchange of at least one semester at an eligible UTS partner university
  • Complete an approved fill time program of study at the host institution
  • An undergraduate or postgraduate coursework student

For the UTS Spring 2016 and Autumn 2017 sessions, outbound ISEP scholarships are now available for the following exchange locations;

  • Slovenia - $5000 x 1
  • Poland - $5000 x 1
  • Portugal - $5000 x 1

Incoming student subsidies
Students studying at the Australian institution under student exchange arrangements, and who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply for incoming student subsidies. UTS will advise Universities that an ISEP award is available to their students, and these students from selected universities are invited to apply by invitation.

Selection process

UTS International will assess all applicants. Scholarship allocation will be based on academic merit and each student's personal statement.


You do not need to apply for the Global Exchange Scholarship as you will automatically be considered when you apply for an exchange semester at an eligible destination. Note: This is not a guarantee of a scholarship.
