Overview

This Scholarship has been established by the Crescent Foundation to support undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students from refugee, asylum seeker and migrant backgrounds facing barriers to education with financial support, and the opportunity to undertake mentoring opportunities.

The Crescent Foundation has embarked on a journey with a vision of providing a sustainable, positive and real impact in the lives of refugees

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or humanitarian protection visa;[1][2] and
  • Be enrolled full-time in a UTS undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree; 
  • All candidates must apply using the UTS online Scholarships Application form to be eligible.
    • Carer responsibilities;
    • English language difficulty;
  • Preference may be given to students who demonstrate one or more the following educational barriers:
  • Refugee status

Students wishing to evidence one of these educational barriers will need to apply for a Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) Equity Scholarship


 


[1] Humanitarian Protection Visa include a permanent humanitarian visa; or have temporary asylum seeker or refugee residence status and hold a Bridging Visa E or A (and has made an application for a Protection Visa), or Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785), or Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (subclass 790) , or Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa (subclass 786).

[2] Applicants holding an Australian Bridging Visa will be required to provide a statement and/or letter from a community organisation verifying the applicant’s experience of being an asylum-seeker

Selection process

As demonstrated in the Scholarship application:

  • Motivation and commitmentto succeed in their UTS degree program
  • Interest to participate in the donor’s mentorship program to further opportunities within industry and achieve their desired career pathway
  • Demonstrated initiative to seek opportunities to continually advance their professional and personal lives
  • Motivation to contribute to the community

 

Preference will be given to students who:

  • Are the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa; or
  • Have temporary asylum seeker or refugee residence status and hold a Bridging Visa E or A (and has made an application for a Protection Visa), or Temporary Protection Visa (Subclass 785), or Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (Subclass 790)
  • Can demonstrate carer responsibilities and/or an English language difficulty
