Academic development programs and resources at UTS provide academic staff with opportunities to support, reflect on and enhance their work and career development. They include support for the process of probation for new academics and professional development opportunities and resources for all academic staff, including advice and resources on preparing for a promotion.
Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning
The Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning provides opportunities for academics to participate at a choice of three levels:
- Participation in workshop sessions without completing assessment tasks or enrolling in the course. This level is available to all UTS academics and other teaching staff, including casuals by negotiation with the course co-ordinator.
- Completion of individual subjects. At this level, you would come to sessions or complete equivalent independent learning activities and submit appropriate evidence of learning in a reflective teaching portfolios for assessment. This level is available only to participants in the development program for academics new to UTS. If you complete subjects and are not enrolled in the course, the completion will be counted for credit if you choose to enrol.
- Completion of the entire course, which enables you to obtain a formal qualification in learning and teaching in higher education. The course may be completed by completing a negotiated action research project related to your teaching and learning context, and credit may be given for equivalent prior learning.

UTS Teaching and Learning forum
The annual UTS Learning and Teaching Forum is an opportunity for UTS staff to share ideas and innovations on learning and teaching in a practice-oriented university. In some years, this Forum alternates with UTS’s hosting of the annual ATN Assessment Conference.

Research supervision development
The UTS University Graduate School provides a range of services to support and develop our research students, supervisors and early career researchers. UTS is a leading member of the fIRST consortium site which contains online activities and resources for improving research supervision and training.
