A UTS industry PhD will help you:
- gain industry experience that will enhance your career options
- build strong relationships with prospective employers
- grow a professional network with both industry and academic contacts
- develop knowledge and skills in communication, innovation and commercialisation.
You can also access scholarship funding to assist with your studies.
Note: If your current employer has a complex problem they’d like to address, they can partner with UTS and turn that problem into your PhD research project. In this case, you will continue to receive a salary rather than a scholarship.
The IDP is for anyone interested in undertaking an industry-based PhD qualification, with a view to working in industry after graduation. You may be an employee of the partnering industry organisation, or someone interested in the broader industry sector it operates in.
UTS has developed a tailored support program specifically for IDP students. The Industry Researcher Development Program (IRDP) provides knowledge and skills to effectively create, plan, negotiate outcomes and deliver on industry projects.
Facilitated by a range of research and industry experts, the IRDP will be offered in block mode to enable you to meet and network with your IDP peers. The commitment is approximately 15–20 days per year.
You must meet the admission requirements for a PhD and the relevant student category (domestic or international).
You can apply for a PhD through the UTS-Industry Doctorate Program using the UTS Online Application System.
You must also answer ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Are you applying for an industry doctoral program?’ on the online application form to be considered for this program.
Note: Please contact the Graduate Research School to discuss your research interests before you submit your application.
