Maen is a PhD. Candidate in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Technology, Sydney. He has active research interests in the area of Sensor Networks particularly on solving the calibration problem of the sensors of a sensor network. He also has research interests in image processing, data (image / video) compression and telecommunications.
Drift Aware Sensor Networks:
The focus of wireless sensor networks is to utilise low cost sensors with sufficient computing and communication capabilities to support networked sensing applications. The emphasis on lower cost led to sensors that are less accurate and less reliable. Sensors usually suffer from both random and systematic (bias) problems. Even when the sensors are properly calibrated at the time of their deployment, they develop drift in their readings leading to biased sensor measurements. Assuming that neighbouring sensors have correlated measurements and noting that the instantiation of drift in a sensor is uncorrelated with other sensors we aim to develop a distributed algorithm that enables each sensor to detect and correct its erronous measurements (calibrate itself automatically). This will eventually result in a more reliable sensor network with longer effictive life span.
